Things You Should Look for When Buying Gear for Walleye Fishing

To be successful at Walleye fishing you have to combine strategy, location and gear. To may not think it to be important , but without the right fishing gear, even with all enthusiasm and best intentions in the world, you may not be able to catch this hard to get fish. Interested in improving your chance to catch the Walleye? Listed below are the best and important fishing gear you'll need to complete your Walleye fishing tool kit:

Fishing rod

When buying a fishing rod look for the three most vital things: strength, flex and length. As you may be aware Walleye is not a fish to stay in one place for long, and you will have to do your bit with a reliable and a strong fishing rod.

It is also important to have a rod of correct length because if you try to fish in a region which is encircled with trees and shrubs, if you have a shorter line it is better as it will avoid any tangle. Buy a rod which is about 6 to 7 feet long, and should the job well irrespective of the fact that you fish from a boat or the shore.

Mow you must be thinking how flex can be a factor, think how lightly the Walleye may strike at your bait sometimes. There have been times when anglers have lost a very good catch all because their rods were too rigid to give them a 'feel'. Believe it a light, supple, medium to fast action rod will give you more catch than your heavy and stiff old faithful.

Fishing reel

The next thing to consider in your fishing gear is the reel. A spinning reel is a good choice. Many anglers believe will do a wonderful job with a well-chosen rod. If the spinning reel and rod is of the right combination, it will let you in with light cranks and jigs; they are two of the best and reliable essentials in your walleye fishing equipments.

You should check the drag when looking at the fishing reel in the store. Make it a point to choose the one that is the smoothest so that if you have to play tug of war with the Walleye, you will not end up wasting too much energy in this fight. It is important to clean the drag to help you maneuver your line better. It will also allow you to pull and discharge with smallest effort. If there is too much resistance then your line could break.

Fishing line

Always buy a strong and reliable line. It is better to pay more for good quality stuff, when fishing you will thank yourself for not being stingy.

Lures and baits

The main components of your gear which attracts the Walleye are the lure and bait. For your first picks you can choose Jigs, Crank baits, Bottom bouncer.
